This month was extraordinary: Internet users and tech firms stood together to beat back appaling Internet censorship legislation.

One of the fiercest supporters of the legislation was the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the major DC lobbying outfit for big business.

The Chamber even launched a direct attack on Demand Progress a couple of months ago, when we asserted that SOPA and PIPA would foster Internet censorship!

Yahoo quit the Chamber during the height of the SOPA/PIPA fight, but Google -- which did amazing work to help defeat the censorship bills -- is still a member.

Will you click here to urge Google to sever its ties with the noxious Chamber of Commerce?

We're launching this joint campaign with a new group called SumOfUs, which works on corporate accountability issues.

There are countless reasons for Google to quit the Chamber, but top on that list:

New(ish) Review... pretty much us in a nutshell...

The Echo is hard to find. They don’t even have a sign out front. Also, a big part of my motivation to write this review is due to the title.

First up, Kill Kill Kill. I couldn't really find any information about them so the most I did was listen to a 30 second preview of their music online.

First a girl with a pink wig wandered onstage and played guitar with a violin bow. I wasn’t sure if the show was starting or if she was just practicing. She did this for quite a while so people must have started to wonder, “Is this it? Am I being rude by sitting down right now?” since they slowly, awkwardly wandered up to the stage. Then some big hairy white guy with super cool light-up drumsticks wandered up onto the stage. I’m not even sure if he was in the band or not due to the way he crept up there and had this look that said, “Hey, no one noticed that I’m not supposed to be up here.” He took up playing a cymbal with the cool drumstick and pretty much stuck to that the whole time. He was probably nervous about being caught. I think the next person to wander on stage was an Asian guy. He sat behind a full drum kit and played with such purpose that he must have either been in the band or really wanted to. Pretty soon a postal worker out of the crowd caught on to the ad-hoc nature of the band and grabbed a bass guitar that was lying around up there. I assume he was a postal worker, at least, because he wore blue work clothes and really looked like he was getting some anger out up there. This set up left a gaping hole at front and center stage. Realizing this, some tall mountain man from the crowd jumped up there and grabbed a guitar. He played for a while, then noticed a microphone in front of him. He sang for a bit but then, probably due to his inexperience as a musician, stepped on the cord or something and make the mic cut out. If he were in the band he probably would have asked the venue to fix it for him, but instead he kind of played it off as not a problem in order to not get noticed. At some point a guy that looked like someone’s drug dealer uncle sat down stage left and tweaked some knobs, or sent text messages to his clients, it was hard to tell. After about a twenty minute intro, their first and only song began. Which is pretty good considering they hadn’t played together before this. Twenty minutes to get into a groove with a fully new band, heck, that’s actually pretty good. In case you’re still wondering, they seem to have coalesced into a drone band. I hope they exchanged numbers after their set.

The concept, in two words, is "trip music." Why is it called "trip music?" Because there were no words to properly describe this music. "Psychedelic music" is not same thing as trip music. As I see it, psychedelic rock is a type of rock music that evolved under the influence of the drug culture. For example, when I took acid when I was younger, I took my guitar just played the high E string -- by myself. Suddenly, I heard a beautiful drone sound in my head. Then I set up my recording system, and I recorded it for an hour. The next morning, I played the tape back, and then I just heard the pinking sound of the string. It wasn't the same. When I played it on acid, the sound became such a beautiful drone for me. But microphones and recorders don't take acid, so they can't add anything! So-called "psychedelic" music is like this. I learned that I should just play music that has the same effect on people as taking drugs does! Even if people don't take drugs, they can feel something. Trip music makes people trip to other stages of other worlds...only by using music! [laughs]

There was some delightful music in there somewhere. Kill Kill Kill played, a type of droning, ambient, bow-on-guitar, pound pound pound stuff. I considered walking out at first, then I decided to give it a couple more minutes, and then I got lost in it, and then it was over, and I was fairly pleased, both with how much I eventually enjoyed it, and also, to be honest, that it was over. They played for just long enough. And it was all one continuous song, so there wasn't any of the bullshit clapping nonsense.

Kill Kill Kill – This reminds me of why I love doom and psyche but not in a live setting. The songs were expansive epic and multifaceted and so slow that each note would be suspended in amber. It was very enjoyable, but I can’t really get into doom when it’s live simply because it typically doesn’t change enough for me. Even bands I really enjoyed like Battilus can become draining if I have to endure them for to long.

With a lo-fi, free form, somewhat “action music” approach, they offer titillating drone-jazz-metal on tracks like “Crown All Around,” full of caterwauling ghost calls, like stoner music for math rockers. This might prepare you for the hellbending “Soft Hands,” more akin to bands like Ruins and the Boredoms, though stripped down to skeletal haiku forms: sonic barrages for the attention deficit crowd. The ambient, scattered “Don’t Trust Yourself” is eerie, and the guitars sound like aluminum streaks and the cymbals a wash of metallic foam until they settle into a sepulchral mantra groove, mesmerizing and impromptu, despite sounding like it was recorded on a 1978 Sears Roebuck handheld recorder. They songs are cut-off suddenly, almost at odds with each each other: expect no gentle transitions and fade-outs. Clipped and startling, they are slow grenades. The feedback noise-poem “Complicated Situation” sounds like the Velvet Underground attacking a cheap distorted Casio with hammers. Unexpectedly, “We Are Lions” comes out soft and seductive. Nothing but a whisper in the acoustic serenaded wind. “Casket Problems” resembles layered, stolen artifacts from the 1990’s era Swans — voices weave in and out with trembling uncertainty, cloudy obliqueness filters throughout, and hollow-eyed beauty beckons, backed by an insistent strumming that begs to form some poetry from the disparate elements. The big drum zoo of “Kindness Kills,” all power hungry tom tom fuss and bluster, combines with arty guitar charades, not unlike bleary and begotten Sonic Youth daydreams underscored with old school prog metal.
